Today has been really mellow and stay inside and cuddle the dogs day.
What do you do when the weather is inclement, not sunny (which is rare) and you don't want to deal with the outside world? Or is there a favorite coffee shop or bookstore you like to go hang in that makes you feel all warm inside?
As long as I stay heavily dosed with Dayquil Cough Formula, I appear fairly normal. Unless I have to exert myself or talk alot. Then all bets are off and I'm a coughing fool. It didn't slow me down, though.
Managed to go out furniture shopping before all my energy abandoned me and we found leather living room furniture we could both live with. It's sort of a cinnamony leather with very firm cusions. Sofa, chair and ottoman and chaise. I love the chaise. We opted for that rather than the loveseat. Wolfie wanted them all, but I had to talk him down with the reminder that the living room just isn't that big. Wanted a slate-top coffee table we saw under the clearance tent as we went in the store, but when we went back to get the tag off of it, it was sold. :( We settled for an oak gametable top coffee table. Checkers and Backgammon! It'll be fun!
The old leather furniture will go down to the basement in the "entertainment" room. Ha! I never thought I'd have a real Entertainment Room. The rest of the basement got planned, as well. A guest room, a commercial/health dept. approved kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, ENTERTAINMENT ROOM, and the front two rooms with hardwood floors will be service for our Supper Club we have planned. I totally psyched!
The icky, smelly, nasty-ass carpet finally got pulled up this weekend. God, it was gross! We now have concrete floors with dried carpet glue on them, but believe me...that's SO MUCH BETTER.
We found what we think are the original wooden and glass doors that go on the front of the built-in bookcases in the house. The measurements match up at least and I think we can make them work, even if that wasn't their original purpose. We thought they were windows that swung open, but now really believe they were glass doors for these bookcases (the ones that divide the living and dining rooms).
We are so not ready to have a housewarming party, but about 20 people have already RSVP'd so it's a go next weekend and we'll just tell everyone to use their imaginations and tell them what we plan to do. LOL!
Oh, and we have these uber cool windows on the ends of the front porch that swing open, and we cleaned and polished them up today and I cannot believe how much brighter it makes the porch feel!
The last thing we did was hang three doors we found in the basement in the furnace room. One off the kitchen into the hall upstairs and the other two downstairs. I cannot wait to get the basement redone into a livable space! And I don't think it's going to take all that much. I'm hoping it will be our winter project this year.
So, that's all the boring house shit for now. I'm really loving the place and so glad we moved down here. Friday night, driving to this cool jazz bar/seafood restaurant for dinner only ten minutes from the house was awesome! Central Denver rocks!
So, Howard Dean has been avoiding Colorado (along with other states contending for the DNC in 08) so it won't look like he has a favorite. Although we all know how much he loves us. :) But, that's now why I'm here. I found this so incredibly funny (probably way funnier than it was meant to me or you will find it), since I had the misfortune to live on the Western Slope for the most excruciating four months of my life. They really should be totally cut off from the rest of Colorado and just form their own nice little in-bred colony.
" Convincing Dean that the Western Slope might as well be another state has not been successful."
HINT: you probably need to read the very short aritcle I linked to up there to get the full effect.
