Make Banana Bread Pudding (and OMG was it good!!!)
High Altitude note: Same temperature, but about 10-15 minutes longer.
Takes approx. 1 1/2 hours to make.
Oven temperature: 325 degrees
1 loaf stale French bread, cubed, with crust left on
1 quart milk (whole or 2%)
3 eggs
1 cup sugar
2 Tbs. Vanilla extract
4 ripe bananas, mashed
1 cup raisins
1 tsp. freshly ground nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
Splash of Meyer's Rum (optional)
Put cubed bread in a large bowl with milk, let stand for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 325. Spray 9 x 13 baking dish. In another bowl beat together eggs, sugar, and vanilla. Stir this mixture into the bread mixture, fold in the mashed bananas, spices and raisins.
Pour evenly into 9 x 13 dish. Place uncovered in center of oven, bake 1 hour 10 minutes. Remove from oven, cool to room temperature. Serve with whipped cream.
We had a pretty successful housewarming party last weekend. There was a moment when I wasn't sure we'd have the house clean in time, but that was only because Wolfie told some people from his office it started at noon instead of 2:00. Luckily, no one listens to him there, either.
Thought I'd share our menu. I tried a new Jambalaya recipe I don't like, so I'm not going to post that, but our other fare was various pizzas. We made up dough for ten pizzas and they were all gone by 5:00 and I think we could have probably made five more.
The least favorite was the Tapanade. My idea of course. I wasn't counting on so many people not knowing what tapanade is and then as soon as I said anchovies, it was a pass. Frankly, I think it was scrumptuous and now I have this whole bowl of tapanade I need to do something with this week.
Surprisingly enough, the most popular was the one we took from our menu at Three Doors Down"
Procuitto
Fresh arugala
Robiola cheese (found at Whole Foods, believe it or not!)
White truffle oil
As an aside, did you know that most women don't like the smell of white truffle oil because it contains phermones? Thank you, Gordon Ramsey. :)
The other pizzas were:
* Sundried tomatoes and feta cheese
* Three cheese blend and roasted garlic
* Smoked quail, red onions and cilantro (I think it was the second most popular and the one I didn't get a chance to taste at all!)
And for your horror and amusement, The Accidental Hedonist posted links to food critic, Alan Richman's infamous slam to New Orleans.
