I better post these while I'm thinking about it. My friend Val asked to see more picture of the house. You can probably guess the layout of the house from them. When taking the picture of the living room doorway into the kitchen (the pic with the wine rack), I was standing almost in the same place I was when I took a picture of the tree in the previous post.
As long as I stay heavily dosed with Dayquil Cough Formula, I appear fairly normal. Unless I have to exert myself or talk alot. Then all bets are off and I'm a coughing fool. It didn't slow me down, though.
Managed to go out furniture shopping before all my energy abandoned me and we found leather living room furniture we could both live with. It's sort of a cinnamony leather with very firm cusions. Sofa, chair and ottoman and chaise. I love the chaise. We opted for that rather than the loveseat. Wolfie wanted them all, but I had to talk him down with the reminder that the living room just isn't that big. Wanted a slate-top coffee table we saw under the clearance tent as we went in the store, but when we went back to get the tag off of it, it was sold. :( We settled for an oak gametable top coffee table. Checkers and Backgammon! It'll be fun!
The old leather furniture will go down to the basement in the "entertainment" room. Ha! I never thought I'd have a real Entertainment Room. The rest of the basement got planned, as well. A guest room, a commercial/health dept. approved kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, ENTERTAINMENT ROOM, and the front two rooms with hardwood floors will be service for our Supper Club we have planned. I totally psyched!
The icky, smelly, nasty-ass carpet finally got pulled up this weekend. God, it was gross! We now have concrete floors with dried carpet glue on them, but believe me...that's SO MUCH BETTER.
We found what we think are the original wooden and glass doors that go on the front of the built-in bookcases in the house. The measurements match up at least and I think we can make them work, even if that wasn't their original purpose. We thought they were windows that swung open, but now really believe they were glass doors for these bookcases (the ones that divide the living and dining rooms).
We are so not ready to have a housewarming party, but about 20 people have already RSVP'd so it's a go next weekend and we'll just tell everyone to use their imaginations and tell them what we plan to do. LOL!
Oh, and we have these uber cool windows on the ends of the front porch that swing open, and we cleaned and polished them up today and I cannot believe how much brighter it makes the porch feel!
The last thing we did was hang three doors we found in the basement in the furnace room. One off the kitchen into the hall upstairs and the other two downstairs. I cannot wait to get the basement redone into a livable space! And I don't think it's going to take all that much. I'm hoping it will be our winter project this year.
So, that's all the boring house shit for now. I'm really loving the place and so glad we moved down here. Friday night, driving to this cool jazz bar/seafood restaurant for dinner only ten minutes from the house was awesome! Central Denver rocks!
Here a few pics of the interior of our insanity project. I hate them, but what do you expect from a disposable camera? yes, my SLR was packed off somewhere, thanks to Wolfie's ingenious packing methods, and I couldn't find it. There will be better ones soon, as I have subliminally (THIS IS WHAT I WANT DUDE) told him to get me a digital camera for my upcoming birthday. *g*
So, a few of the neighbors got together yesterday afternoon and the wine was flowing and the bitching about graffiti on this one property which is empty right now got out of hand and next thing we knew, the guy whose home we were at got out his roller and paint brush, I was handing over the half gallon of white primer paint I had left from the bathroom and there was a GANG of us going over to paint the garage door.
Yes, about five or six yuppie men showing the establishment who's boss by painting over the graffiti. Hey, they even tagged it! *G* We're so revolutionary!!
We've now decided we need gang colors and a bandana. Look out fifth ward. We're hitting you next!!
All of the kitchen cabinets are FULL to overflowing and there are still four boxes of kitchen items to put away. Oh, Calamity! Then I remembered that I have a whole linen closet cum pantry in the hallway that we haven't used yet because the plumber was having to go through the back wall of it to work. Whew! Calamity averted.
The double clothes rack is put together and most of my clothes are in reaching distance now. We may actually get the futon set up this weekend in case anyone wants to come visit! You'll have to share the room with my clothes, though.
As you know, I've been on an indie country music kick lately and you can see what I've been listening to by clicking the audio tab. I really like this feature on Vox. The only thing I really DON'T like is that non-vox members can't seem to leave comments anonymously (or otherwise). Exclusionists!!!
Oh oh oh!! We got a cordless lawn mower that is so freaking cute! It's quiet and it sounds like a toy wind up plane. Alas, it also mows like one. I think once the weeds and (what little we have) grass get beaten into submission, it will do fine. For now, my weed wacker works better.
I'm starting to plan the fall planting, which is apparently when I need to be doing my xeriscaping. I'm not sure how much our wallets will allow this year, but I'm doing what I can.
Once the furniture locations are relatively stable, I'll be taking new pictures. Alas, the walls are still yucky colors.
I think we win at spending the most money for the most things in the shortest amount of time. I can't actually prove that until I update our MS Money this weekend and enter all our expenditures under the "House of Insanity" category.
Did I mention that whole in our cement ceiling/floor?
Plumber fixing tub -- $756
Contractor fixing hole in cement floor plumber made -- $750
Being able to use my new toilet (replacing the cracked one the plumber broke) -- PRICELESS
Coming up? Electrician adding yet more outlets in our over-technologyized house, repairing chimney so it won't fall on someone's head who will then sue us, and tuck pointing a bazillion bricks in the side of the house.
It was a simple clogged bathtub. Ok, so Draino didn't cut it and neither did the uber commerical industrial quality drain cleaner.
It started out to be a $157 job to replace the P-trap and pipe that ran from the overflow to the drain. I mean, I could probably have done that much if I'd been inclined.
Now, another $700 later, the whole main bathroom has been replumbed and we have had to replace the toilet and there is a very large hole in the ceiling of the basement/floor of our bathroom. A hole through cement.
