So, I'm going to attempt to post my favorite Irish songs, one a day, through March 17th. Ok, so that's only 11 days, but I'll throw in two on the actual party day!
Tonight, my favorite Celtic group, now defunct and almost impossible to find CDs for, Ceili's Muse from houston, TX. Ladies, this is guaranteed to make you smile and put you in a good mood.
No, seriously!! How do you???? We totally fucked up our poor ducklings. May they rest in peace.
Copied from my LJ:
I should be working so I can get the hell out of here before the NEXT blizzard strikes, but instead I'm uploading y'all some music. Yes, it's indie country. Move along you philistines who don't like it.
Got a sample CD from Suburban Home Records when I ordered Drag the River's re-release of Hobo Demos. I didn't care so much for one of the bands, but I did like Tim Barry, who will be touring with Drag on the West Coast in February, I understand.
Anyway, *I* like him, so that's all that really matters, eh?
and
Watcha think?
I love this girl! She's from Houston and mostly plays locally, but does tour on occasion. I give you Carolyn Wonderland.
I hate starting the holiday season out like scrooge, but seriously, folks, could it get any worse than having to stand in a 50 yard checkout line with only two cashiers and then being forced to listen to Christian hymns while you're doing it?
I think not.
I say I'm never going back to HL every time I go there, but then a year or so goes by and I'm all, hey $1.99 yarn, let's go see! And I"m reminded all over again WHY I HATE THAT STORE.
Ahem.
On a more positive note, two things make me happy today. I bought tickets to the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls derby Saturday night (and that should rock!) and I've discovered lighted knitting needles which makes my gadget-girl heart go pitter patter.
Have I shared my favorite Ceili's Muse song with you guys yet? Here, allow me...
with Drag the River.
That's one of the t-shirts we saw at Larimer Lounge, which is a totally cool venue to go hang on a Sunday afternoon. We watched 'em play washers for about an hour while nursing our beers and scotch and waiting for the band to set up. Washers is like horseshoes, only waaaaay harder, man. There were some pretty good tossers and some pretty drunk ones too. :)
My conclusion at the end of the Drag the River show was, I would actually reconsider having kids as long as I had a boy and he grew up to sing like Chad Price. Jon ain't bad either, but man, I love to listen to me some Chad. Wolfie enjoyed watching Spacey Casey on the pedal steel. He reminded me of Schroder on Peanuts. Never looking up and very very focused, which you know, he probably had to be.
And Dave...poor Dave, the drummer. We came inside about the time he sat down to test the sound on his drums, then he got up and left before the rest got there. He didn't reappear until the third (or fourth?) song and man, did he look rough. I told Wolfie he looked like he just came out of the bathroom from either throwing up or getting a blow job. Later, we decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and agreed he had the flu, since he was coughing on stage. I'm sure he'd rather us think that, anyway.
The set was traumatically short, because it was Sunday and they were doing the twenty bands in one day thing (or whatever they call it) and each band only had about 30 minutes. I was a little bummed they didn't do Cause and Cure, but it was certainly worth the ten minute drive to Larimer to see them and just get out of the house.
I know they're playing at the Oriental tonight, along with Casey James Prestwood, who I'd also like to see, but that ain't gonna happen. So, I'll content myself with listening to 'em and sharing them with y'all.
p.s. - I just realized I didn't really say anything insightful or reviewery about their music, but I'm pretty sure that's not why you're here anyway. They're good. That is all.
